September Tour: Day 6 (Ohio)

Well, for less than 12 more ours….then it’s off to Johnson City, TN.

But last night was fun. I got to hang out with my buddy Jerry Chapman in Mount Airy, NC, and the Mediocre Bad Guys.

Tonight, My friends Jon and Stephanie came over for our rehearsal. We’ve been working on the live version of the song “Can’t Keep On Running” from my new album, and it’s coming along really well…..I’ll give you a little background to what’s going on here. It started out, that we wanted the drum loop to play live, so Jon, in his amazing technological wisdom, rigged up a MIDI trigger on his keyboard so that he could start the loop. That worked pretty well, so we started thinking….towards the end of the song there are these two cello parts that fugue, but we only have one cello.

Jon rigged up a way to record the cello as she plays the first part and loop it back while she plays the 2nd part on top. Then he found a way to layer the parts, so we added 2 more cello parts….but why stop there? why not loop andy’s guitar, and add some percussion right?

well, here’s what we came up with…remember, there’s no prerecorded parts besides the drum loop. It’s all happening live.
